Director of HR Systems and Operations

Oversees, directs, and manages the activities and staff involved in the management of Human Resources operations which includes Payroll, Time & Attendance, HR Systems, Analytics, Reporting, Records and Retention, etc.  In partnership with the Total Rewards management team, this position is responsible for leading a strategically focused  team that designs, implements, executes, and manages Human Resources  programs, policies, and communications.

  • Develops group and individual performance plans in alignment with Company goals and objectives; communicates clearly and defines individual and group objectives; maintains level of productivity in unit
  • Trains employees to do their job; sets standards for work performance
  • Monitors performance and provides feedback to direct reports through formal and informal performance feedback; regularly communicates with staff to achieve mutual understanding and desired results
  • Recognizes and addresses performance strengths and limitations of subordinates
  • Manages employee attendance to ensure compliance with Company standards; approve/monitor overtime
  • Communicates and supports Company policies and decisions in a positive manner
  • Develops staffing needs, selects new employees, makes recommendations in job evaluation and compensation, and recommends termination actions
  • Conducts team meetings with department employees; includes monthly safety topic, ISO, DOE and other applicable training
  • Handles employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
  • Provides employees with a safe, comfortable, and rewarding work environment
  • Prepares and monitors department overhead budget

                                                                                                                                                                                          ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Drives innovation and continuous improvement; develops a scalable approach to HR Operations in line with business needs and culture
  • Manages payroll and timekeeping administration to optimize systems and functional results; including non-exempt, exempt, and executive payrolls, incentive payments, payroll taxes, timekeeping schedules and processes, reporting, etc.; ensures best practices are established, documented, and communicated
  • Serves as the Business Process Owner (BPO) for HR related projects;  works closely with Information Solutions (IS) to develop, design, and implement integrated HR systems; recommends platforms, structures, and implementation strategies
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, and Total Rewards to identify opportunities to leverage HR systems in support of reduced administration and increased efficiency; including ViNES, the company’ s HCM system
  • Develops a strong cross-functional partnerships with HRLT, Finance & Planning, Accounting, IS, and other functions to ensure HR goals and objectives align with cross-functional initiatives; evaluates interdependencies prior to implementing changes to HR systems and processes; partners with Talent Acquisition and Talent Management to deploy annual processes from within the ViNES platform
  • Develops HR metrics and reports, and provides statistical analysis for HR team, company KPI reporting, and other functions as needed; regularly reports data in the form of dashboards, graphs, reports, and/or spreadsheets. Proactively looks for trends and patterns which may require attention.
  • Partners with HR leadership, Accounting & Finance, Information Solutions, and Legal to ensure policies and practices comply with regulatory standards and internal processes in areas of responsibility.
  • Creates and executes training and communication strategies to drive acceptance and support of HR Operation’ s practices and processes.
  • Interprets pay policies and procedures and provides guidance to HR business partners on payroll and timekeeping related matters
  • In partnership with Total Rewards leadership, develops and manages the operational calendar for Total Rewards; executes priorities and initiatives in areas of responsibility
  • Drives initiatives to ensure data integrity and confidentiality
  • Builds a high performance team to deliver exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers; establish metrics to ensure business needs and service levels are being met
  • Works with the department VP in collaboration with the EVP Human Resources to develop and drive HR’ s annual budgeting process; identifies opportunities to reduce spending; communicates monthly variances



Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’ s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field is required; MBA is a plus
  • 7-10 years of progressive HR experience
  • 5 years of experience in management; including managing payroll and administrative staff
  • Payroll and HRIS knowledge and experience integrating systems and technology; SAP, SuccessFactors strongly preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience setting and implementing company policies
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of payroll administration, applicable wage & hour, labor, and employment laws
  • Ability to identify trends and execute continuous improvement projects
  • Advanced Excel skills (Vlookups, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality presentations and training programs
  • Strong change management and project management skills with ability to track concurrent project timelines, resource allocations, and critical milestones
  • Strong problem solving
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others toward mutual objectives and able to influence across non-direct reports on cross functional teams
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all employees and levels of management
  • Experience managing others/leading teams

Certificates and Licenses
  • PHR/SPHR, CPP certifications preferred
