Youth Services - Resource Coordinator (Mental Health Specialist)

 

Purpose:

This position is responsible for mental health services consultation, information and referral services for youth and young adults and for those who care for youth. The incumbent shall ensure that integrity; sound ethical standards and practices are always maintained and believes in the moral and ethical obligation to help take care of the communitys youth and those who care for them regardless of the persons socio-economic status.

Qualifications:

1. B. A. required.
2. M. A. in related field, preferred

3. Strong written and oral communication skills required

4. Ability to design educational seminars and present them to the public required 5

. Ability to speak clearly and represent the organization well in public required

6. Strong organizational skills required

7. Experience designing and maintaining community resource files required

8. Computer and internet skills required

9. Valid California Driver License and proof of insurance required.
  1. Demonstrates knowledge of issues pertaining to the youth and young adults and those who care for them (i.e., possesses experience/education in the field of youth mental health and/or middle school and high school services; has a basic background and understanding of mental health conditions, is knowledgeable in regard to cultural differences and can address needs professionally; has compassion for those with experiencing symptoms of mental health conditions and the needs of families that are caring for those individuals; is supportive and remains objective.)
  2. Provides confidential individualized resource consultations and assessment of care situation for youth and those who care for youth (i.e., listens to clients concerns and assesses needs.), answers questions, and offers suggestions to help clients clarify concerns and establish priorities.)
  3. Accesses and provides care planning information and referral services both locally and nationally (i.e., provides a minimum of three referrals based on availability of individuals and agencies who be reputation, advertising, licensing or presence on a resource list, can be reasonably assumed to be active and legitimate providers of services. Provides clients with educational materials to supplement the referrals, including trusted websites, library resource books, handouts, or related articles.)
  4. Maintains case notes and records on each eldercare client (i.e., creates a file with Intake and Case Notes including the clients name, address, phone numbers, email address, record of contacts and referrals, and number of case management hours. Opens file at time of intake. Prepares a folder with client information (including clients name, phone number(s), and employer) to serve as a quick reference for consultants Places follow-up calls or emails to all corporate clients to check on client progress and obtains feedback on providers as referred. Documents any changes in case notes following the call.)
  5. Creates curriculum for parent support group for community members and ASPIRE graduates. Works in consultation with the ASPIRE team to consistently refine and improve group curriculum based upon feedback from community members and needs of families that attend. Will also be responsible for facilitating the support group at a time that is convenient to families and needs of program staff. Will prepare fliers and community postings to ensure that the public is aware of availability of class. Recruitment of participants will be the responsibility of facilitator.
  6. Represents El Camino Hospital and BHS at fairs and in community events (i.e., provides information about ASPIRE and other BHS services to the public and to healthcare professionals. Assists with community programs developed by ASPIRE in meetings and coordinating client participation. Serves as advocate for El Camino Hospital in a professional manner. )
  7. Demonstrates excellent understanding of crisis intervention skills (i.e., listens carefully for indirect information, is aware of emotional status, makes referrals to appropriate support groups, assesses the need for referral to the emergency department, suicide prevention hotline, and program management. Documents conversation and actions taken in case notes when call or visit is completed. Informs Director and peers of potential problem cases as evidenced in thorough documentation in case notes.)
  8. Creates and presents seminars (i.e., Schedules speaking engagements with community and corporate groups and presents in a comfortable and professional manner. Also makes presentation with hospital groups when requested. Provides resource materials to groups that reflect information presented along with contact and website data. Maintains professional relationship with community and company contacts.)
