Requirements:

 

•          An experienced leader of applied data science/machine learning research teams who can establish technical credibility with machine learning and engineering teams.

•          Proven Track record of launching new platforms and productization of research

•          Research focused: You are actively involved in staying up to date on research results both within the Personalization & Retail technology space.

•          Team leader capable of developing the creative atmosphere to let people innovate, while holding them accountable for making smart decisions and delivering results.

•          Previous experience with Predictive Analytics and Marketing Tools desired

•          Previous experience with recommender systems and search desired

 

  Responsibilities:

 

•          Own technical vision and direction

•          Collaborate on overall product direction: Build and maintain strong relationships between engineering and partner disciplines (User Experience, Data Engineering, A/B testing, Data Analytics) to ensure that we' re focused on delivering the right product for customers.

•          Influence broadly as part of the Data Science team

•          The company expects a healthy organization will be conducting a mix of long-term research, shorter-term applied research, and ongoing development and support of the productization versions of their research efforts.

•          Publish white papers and research articles that will help cement company’ s leadership position in the personalization space

Basic Qualifications

•          A PhD. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Engineering, mathematics, or similar level of applied research knowledge gained through industry experience.

•          8+ years solving complex problems in some combination of predictive modeling and machine learning.

•          Experience managing a small team of Data Scientists

•          Ability to balance long-term research projects with day to day tactical needs

•          Great communication skills to explain complex concepts to teams with differing backgrounds as well as be the face of the data science team with customers when needed.

<![CDATA[Principal Software Engineer]]> Want to work in a startup environment with a personalized SaaS product so good that they' re profitable even while still being private? Love data sets and translating that into scalable product? Above all, do you just love to code? The company we are recruiting for has been around for years and they' re getting better and better; part of that means that we are looking for new   Principal  Software Engineer  to join the team in their SOMA office.

Our client is modernizing the data flow for companies  that have  a massive amount of data - i.e. hundreds of millions of distinct consumer events per day, and billions of recommendations served per day  during peak days of the year. 

Primary responsibilities:
  • Develop systems for a variety of uses:
    • Production;  automated builds that drive services
    • Support  standard reports and alerting from a production, client facing dashboard, including A/B testing
    • Support  research  in which the data is plugged into experimental methods and outcomes that are tested on live clients
    • Predict customer behavior patterns

  • Work with large scale distributed systems, e.g. big data, cloud services, data analytics, etc.

  • Work with Hadoop  systems  such as Hive, Spark, Pig, etc.

  • Algorithmic development with focus on Machine Learning

  • Work with rapid and innovative development methodologies like Kanban, Continuous Integration, and Daily deployments

  • Performance Unit testing & tuning with JUnit
  • Mentor 2 junior software engineers

Minimum requirements:
  • BS/MS in CS, Engineering, or similar.
  • At least 5+ years of software development
  • Expert in Java, Scala, C#, C++, Spark, etc
  • Proficient in SQL concepts (HiveQL or Postgres would be ideal!)
  • Ability to work with large data sets in the PBs
  • Familiarity with UNIX
  • Open, friendly personality that lends itself to working in a small team. Egos won’ t work here!
