CARD INVESTIGATIONS TECHNICIAN



Job Summary



Research and evaluate member card activity using manual and automated processes to detect, investigate, and resolve fraudulent or high-risk debit and credit card transactions. Monitor card products, ATMs, and online services, verify suspicious activity with members, and ensure timely and accurate fraud reporting and claim processing while maintaining a positive member experience.


Responsibilities


  • Operate and manage card fraud monitoring tools and processes while delivering clear, informative communication to members when verifying or reporting fraud.

  • Identify, investigate, and resolve all card fraud and dispute claims, including research and document review for claim submission.

  • Establish and maintain oral and written communication with card networks, merchants, processors, law enforcement, and members as needed.

  • Resolve member and internal department issues related to card fraud and disputes, including responding to calls and emails in a timely manner.

  • Provide relevant information from fraud investigations to internal business units and external investigating authorities.

  • Collect, evaluate, and document all evidence obtained during investigations to support recovery efforts.

  • Order retrievals and provide accurate documentation required for chargebacks in accordance with applicable card network rules.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of applicable laws and regulations related to card services, fraud, and compliance, including bank secrecy and anti money laundering requirements.

  • Comply with all internal audit, security, and departmental procedures, and stay current with changes to card regulations and procedures.

  • Perform chargebacks using appropriate fraud or dispute codes as defined by card network regulations and updates.

  • Process reimbursements to member accounts as appropriate and provide required notifications in line with relevant regulations.

  • Update notes and information in all claims systems, maintaining accurate call records and adjustment information.

  • Perform additional related duties as necessary to support daily operations.



Requirements


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of one year of experience in a financial institution or in a credit/debit card-related role.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to operate an online computer terminal and standard office equipment, including calculators, personal computers, fax machines, and telephones.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods with occasional mobility as needed.

  • Corrected vision and hearing within normal range, with reasonable accommodation if required.



Summary Qualification


  • Experience handling card fraud and dispute investigations in a financial or card services environment.

  • Knowledge of card products, fraud processes, and applicable regulations.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and investigation activities.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting.



Skill


  • Knowledge of card network regulations and applicable federal and state regulations related to debit and credit cards.

  • Ability to communicate investigation results effectively to members, merchants, and other stakeholders within required time frames.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Proficiency with basic Excel and general PC skills in a Windows environment.

  • Ability to use standard office and electronic banking equipment, including fax, 10-key, and related systems.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
