Pharmacy Technician

Summary

The Pharmacy Technician supports the pharmacy operations by processing prescription claims, verifying patient eligibility, and assisting with prior authorization requests. This role involves collaborating with pharmacists, healthcare providers, and customers to ensure accurate medication dispensing and compliance with insurance guidelines. The technician will also provide support in resolving billing issues, processing appeals, and educating patients on prescription benefits and coverage. 

Job Description

• Coordinate and support the implementation of procedures for the drug prior authorization program for the outpatient Pharmacy Benefit.
• Evaluate prior authorization requests based on medication policy and operational principles.
• Provide drug usage history and other pharmacy benefit-related inquiries to internal business partners for case-specific reviews and drug evaluations.
• Communicate with physicians, office staff, pharmacies, and internal partners to resolve pharmacy benefit inquiries.
• Clearly communicate formulary alternatives and prior authorization criteria, and discuss pharmacy benefit coverage when required.

Qualifications

• Communication
• Basic computer skills
• Pharmacy/Pharmacy Related Experience (2+ years)
• Customer service skills
•  High School Diploma or GED

Certifications Required

Active California Pharmacy Tech License
