Staff Accountant - Gift Processing and Donor Services (Hybrid - 2 days onsite)

Overview:
The Staff Accountant is a key member of the Finance team, responsible for managing gift processing, tax receipting, and acknowledgements. This role also supports constituent records management in partnership with the Philanthropic Partnerships department. The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining data integrity in the CRM system, including donor gift substantiation. Collaboration with Philanthropic Partnerships personnel is essential to ensure timely gift processing, accurate gift receipting, proper crediting of gifts to funds, and donor support.
Essential Functions:
- Manage all aspects of gift processing, including checks, wires, securities, credit cards, and other forms of donations.
- Facilitate securities transfers and direct sales of securities by interfacing with donors, wealth advisors, and brokers.
- Enter donation transactions into the general ledger.
- Create and send tax receipts and acknowledgements to donors.
- Determine acceptability of donations based on approved gift acceptance policy and IRS rules.
- Act as the primary point of contact for donor questions and perform necessary research.
- Oversee the process of establishing/opening new accounts with financial institutions to accept new donor funds.
- Support database to maintain best practices for donor records management and ensure comprehensive and up-to-date data.
- Generate financial gift reporting on a weekly, monthly, and ongoing basis.
- Perform monthly reconciliation processes and provide information for bank reconciliation and cash flow management.
- Reconcile general ledger on a daily basis to reflect daily activity.
- Provide donor service and support Philanthropic Partnerships team efforts by providing critical updates related to gifts.
- Maintain records related to grants, pledges, and fiscal sponsorships.
- Prepare and maintain accounting records, including accounts receivable and journal entries.
- Review accounting documents for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Assist with audits and preparation of IRS tax forms.
- Propose and implement recommendations for improved processes.
- Maintain internal controls.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
- Salary range for this role is $115,000 to $125,000.
