Technical Procedural Writer

Job Summary



Independently designs, develops, and implements procedural documentation strategies that improve business operations across multiple units. Exercises advanced analysis, discretion, and independent judgment to make strategic decisions on documentation for complex, highly regulated processes. Leads multiple documentation projects with minimal supervision, conducts research and interviews with subject matter experts, and monitors process changes to ensure documentation remains accurate, compliant, and effective.


Responsibilities


  • Make strategic decisions related to content, user experience, quality, and training.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for procedural writing and financial services processes.

  • Determine documentation structure, standards, and content to support organizational objectives and regulatory compliance.

  • Influence operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and quality of service across business units.

  • Interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into actionable documentation.

  • Lead documentation projects from inception to completion, including project planning, prioritization, and issue resolution.

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with subject matter experts, supervisors, managers, and senior leaders.

  • Develop, write, and revise procedures to ensure clarity, conciseness, consistency, and accuracy.

  • Obtain background information through research and interviews with business process owners, managers, supervisors, and frontline staff.

  • Translate complex, non-standardized process information into easily understandable procedural content for multiple audiences.

  • Create and edit screenshots, process flow diagrams, and other visual aids.

  • Submit draft documentation for peer and management review and incorporate feedback.

  • Independently manage review processes, project communications, and required resources.

  • Track and update procedures for audit findings, regulatory changes, and internal process or policy updates.

  • Assess and incorporate system-wide changes that impact documentation.

  • Coordinate implementation of approved procedures, including distribution and response to staff questions.

  • Maintain complete and accurate project status reporting for assigned projects and deliverables.

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, products, services, systems, and software relevant to assigned documentation.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of applicable state and federal laws and regulations, including bank secrecy and anti money laundering requirements.

  • Maintain ongoing professional development.

  • Participate in ad hoc project teams.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.



Requirements


  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.

  • Excellent business, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Strong procedural writing skills supported by hands-on experience.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate computer terminals and standard office equipment.

  • Knowledge of financial products and services and related operational procedures.

  • Familiarity with financial data processing, operating, and training systems and software.

  • Familiarity with internal collaboration tools and knowledge bases.

  • Advanced technical writing skills with a user-centric orientation.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Customer service skills.

  • Proficiency with office productivity and collaboration software.

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and input devices.



Summary Qualification


  • Bachelor s degree in a relevant field such as English, Communications, or Technical Writing.

  • 5+ years of experience creating and managing procedural documentation in a regulated environment.

  • Proven expertise in translating complex processes and regulations into clear, usable procedures.

  • Strong project management capability to lead multiple documentation initiatives concurrently.

  • Advanced written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of financial services operations, regulations, and compliance requirements.
